The United Methodist Bishops of Texas are actively continuing their collective call for compassion and care for and the reuniting of immigrant children and their parents via a brief, easy-to-share video that introduces and promotes the #WriteToReunite letter writing campaign.

On June 20, the five episcopal leaders of the United Methodist conferences in Texas – Bishop Earl Bledsoe (Northwest Texas), Bishop Scott Jones (Texas), Bishop Mike Lowry (Central Texas), Bishop Mike McKee (North Texas) and Bishop Robert Schnase (Rio Texas) –
released a joint statement commending President Trump’s signing of an executive order which ended his administration's "zero tolerance" immigration policy of separating families suspected of entering the country illegally along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The bishops also used their joint statement to urge United Methodists and faithful Christians everywhere, to contact their state and federal representatives and senators and express concern for the children who had been separated from their families.
Today, June 29, the Texas bishops have released a video <link> which reiterates and reinforces their mission to reunite vulnerable, immigrant children with their families by asking United Methodists to join them in a letter writing campaign designed to enact change. The brief video message was recorded during the 2018 Bishop’s Week gathering for the South Central Jurisdiction, features brief comments from Bishops Jones, Lowry, McKee and Schnase and promotes the recently released website
WriteToReunite.org. Bishop Bledsoe was not able to attend Bishop’s Week due to a medical condition that does not allow him to travel at the moment.
The
resources found on WriteToUnite.org include sample letters, tips on how to most effectively write this type of letter, links to/address for state and federal officials and more. All five Texas bishops hope that the resources found at WriteToUnite.org will help anyone who would like to enact change on behalf of those immigrant children who have been separated from their parents.
