Congregations within the Central Texas Conference which are approved for disaffiliation at the 2023 Annual Conference session, and that subsequently fulfill all exit requirements, will cease to be United Methodist churches effective July 1, 2023. As such, persons who maintain their membership with a disaffiliating church will also cease to be members of The United Methodist Church.
For people who wish to remain United Methodist, but whose current membership is with a disaffiliating church, there are two options:
(See links to forms above and below).
Either of the options above could be permanent or may serve as a temporary “place holder” to allow time to explore other UM churches and emerging class meetings in their area. It is important to note that all lay members of The United Methodist Church who serve in District, Conference, or General Church leadership roles must maintain unbroken membership in The UMC to continue in those positions. Espousing membership in The United Methodist Church without formally moving membership from a disaffiliated congregation to one that is part of The United Methodist connection does not satisfy the required qualification for leadership in The UMC as defined by the Book of Discipline and Central Texas Conference guidelines.
