Mid-Winter Retreat 2013

by Leanne Johnston* and Julian Hobdy**

On Feb. 22-25, as many as 500 participants gathered in two locations in our conference for a weekend of worship, missions and fellowship. 343 participants stayed for the weekend at Glen Lake Camp and 111 participants were at the Methodist Children’s Home. 39 churches from around the conference were represented. Both locations shared the common theme: Kickin’ it ol’ School as they focused on the basics of our faith.

Youth ministers wrote the curriculum and small groups were almost entirely led by our conference youth. The weekend was planned and executed by youth - for youth. Our CCYM leaders divided themselves between the two locations and participated in leadership by bringing the message, making announcements, serving communion, and caring for general logistics.

The Methodist Children’s Home participants had the opportunity to serve the people of Waco through a variety of service projects, but both mid-winter participants served Emily’s Smile Boxes, Inc. by assembling 50 smile boxes for children and their siblings in the hospital.

Plans are already in the works for Mid-Winter 2014! We hope to offer three different mid-winter experiences including the basics of our faith, missions and service, and discipleship. Mark your calendars for Glen Lake Mid-Winter 2014: Feb. 21-23, 2014 and watch out for more information about two additional mid-winter experiences!
