The CTC Continues the Mission Work in Haiti

For the second time this month, the outwardly focused missional spirit of the Central Texas Conference has found its way to working with and serving the people of Haiti. The group currently on the ground in the coastal community of Leveque is made up volunteers from Bluff Dale, Morgan Mill and Keller UMCs and is working to rebuild a church there that was destroyed in the earthquake that rocked that land in January 2010. Earlier this month a group representing First UMC Joshua and Genesis UMC in Fort Worth also traveled to Leveque and worked on the reconstruction efforts of this church. (At the time of this post, there is not confirmation that the groups actually waved at each other from their respective planes)

The team currently in the region is scheduled to return Oct. 25 and is made up of Sheila Finley, Angela Sumlin, Hunter Halcomb (youth), Debbie Hooper, Debbie Lincoln, Mike and Kathy Novak, Keith Bierley and Rev. Laraine Waughtal. Five of the team have been to Haiti before (this is Laraine’s third trip) and Keith Bierley, who is from Keller, is going to gain experience so that he can lead a team from his church next year.

Please keep this team and all of our CTC family working in the mission field abroad and here at home in your prayers.
