Giving Changes Us...And the World

In Bishop Lowry’s latest blog post regarding the letter he recently received from GCFA General Secretary Moses Kumar giving thanks to God and our conference for generosity shown even during difficult financial times, we are once again reminded of how our connectional giving enables United Methodists to do what no single church or district or annual conference could do by themselves.

According to General Secretary Kumar, giving to the general church apportioned funds through the end of September is up 1.1 percent. Now then, 1.1 percent does not sound like a lot when you look at it through the lens of the individual, but when you put it under the microscope of the connection, it adds up to an additional $770,000. That’s another three-quarter of a million dollars that will help support our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world through our Seven Apportioned Funds.

As Bishop Schnase writes in his book “Five Practices of Faithful Living,” one of the reasons for giving graciously is because “giving changes us.” And because of the faithful and gracious giving of the people of the Central Texas Conference to date, your giving is also changing the world.
