First United Methodist Church of Arlington is looking for an administrative assistant. The administrative assistant provides administrative and clerical support. The position requires strong attention to detail, the capability to communicate well with church members, and the ability to stay focused and organized. The administrative assistant handles a wide range of office tasks. This is a part-time, hourly paid position with office hours of 9 AM – 3 PM, Monday through Thursday and every other Sunday from 8 AM – 12 PM. General duties include but are not limited to: • Answer telephone calls in the church office. • Maintains and publishes the Church calendar, adding & editing events for use of the Church building. • Enters weekly worship & Sunday school class attendance and distributes reports. • Arranges details for weddings, funerals, baptisms, and any other events that require the use of the church itself. • Distributing door codes when needed • Updates Background checks and Ministry Safe so that volunteers are following the Safe Sanctuary policy. • Maintaining the on-call clergy schedule • Reads, responds and/or redirects mail and emails to appropriate committees. • Welcomes visitors, addresses questions, and assists them with any problems. • Prepares correspondence, to include prayer requests and special announcements • Publishes and electronically distributes periodic announcements such as notice of baptisms, calendar of events. • Creates seasonal Poinsettia and Lily dedications and order flowers. • Maintains Sunday Altar flower schedule. • Distributes and acts on mail delivered to the church office. • Acts as liaison to organizations and church-affiliated committees. • Maintains church records, such as information regarding baptisms, marriages and deaths. • Supervises volunteer office workers • Assists with church mailings including homebound packets Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Demonstrates the ability to communicate information to members and visitors. • Demonstrates patience and understanding when dealing with confused, grieving, or difficult visitors to the office. • Is friendly, courteous, and works well with a wide range of different personalities. • Possesses knowledge of publishing, word processing, and basic computer software. • Exhibits strong organizational skills. • Pays close attention to detail. • Is capable of efficiently multitasking on a regular basis.
