The Central Texas Conference Board of Church and Society will lead congregations in The Central Texas Conference to understand that working for peace with justice, environmental survival, and human welfare requires the active engagement of Christian disciples in the mission of transformation of the world. Specifically, the work of this ministry team will bring attention to societal issues through education and help congregations understand the positions of The United Methodist Social Principles.
The board will coordinate planning and implementation of opportunities for education and action related to issues of the quality of life for people in the congregation, community and world; assist congregations in the study and awareness of the Social Principles of the United Methodist Church; and will encourage frequent use of the Social Creed in congregational life. They will provide opportunities for congregational leaders to learn about issues of social justice, ethical living in the work place, and prison ministry. They will also lead congregations in the conference in celebration of the annual Peace with Justice Sunday and other efforts to connect the church with the culture. They will assist churches in sharing information about their efforts in recycling programs and fair trade projects.
In coordination with Conference Service Center staff, the board will assist in providing links with organizations, people and resources in and beyond the conference that are concerned with faith and living. The team will meet two-four times a year or as determined by the planning of the board itself.
