We are reflecting on and celebrating the opportunities God provided this summer. We had 654 first-time campers this year! We are ecstatic about what God is doing through our summer camp program at Glen Lake. Plans are underway for Summer 2017 and we are offering a NEW Counselor in Training Program in order to train up high school leaders for future camp ministry opportunities.
Volunteering at Glen Lake Camp
In 2015, GLC reintroduced the summer camp volunteer program. We had a handful of volunteers try out the revamped program and help us get the word out about the new program. We had 28 volunteers for summer camp in 2016. Glen Lake hopes to continue to grow this program and have at least 20 volunteers each week of camp program in future years. Another way to volunteer is through year-round service/work projects at Glen Lake Camp. In early 2016, Stonegate Fellowship Church of Midland, TX spent five days helping Glen Lake staff by adding a canopy to the zipline, updating cabins, and placing wooden trashcan covers throughout the camp. FUMC Stephenville and City Point UMC also joined Glen Lake for work projects this year. We would love to get your church connected to upcoming projects and have them visit the camp.
Taylor Administration Building
We are currently coordinating volunteer groups to help the Glen Lake Camp staff in the renovation of the Taylor Administration Building. The project will begin with basic demolition and project preparations. Each weekend the project will require a tad more experience or expertise. Daran Miller is coordinating volunteers for the following weekends and welcomes you join us:
- October 15th: Demo - Removing carpet, trash, etc.
- October 22nd: Drywall, AC, wiring,
- October 29th: Hanging doors, working on bathroom update
- November 5th: Painting, finishing, bathroom remodel
- November 12th: Building a porch deck off the back
Daran can be reached by email, email@example.com
, or phone, 254-897-2247. Daran would love to connect with you and share all of the volunteer opportunities at Glen Lake.
We are also seeking donations to support the renovation of the Taylor Administration Building. Returning to the Taylor Administration Building will allow our staff to serve our guests with radical hospitality. Returning to the front gate location will immediately relieve a burden placed on our guests to locate our main office. The move will also free up the Turner Building for group rentals allowing us to serve additional guests with small group meeting space needs.
You can contribute to the Taylor renovation by ordering one of our fundraiser-exclusive design items
. A navy blue long-sleeved shirt is currently available and other products will be added soon.Check it out at booster.com/glenlakecamp
. You may also make a donation with purchase, or you make a direct donation to Glen Lake Camp through PayPal
