2022 Special Session Episcopal Address

On Saturday, Sept. 17, the Central Texas Conference of The United Methodist Church came together for a Special Session of the 2022 Annual Conference to take action on 81 petitions for disaffiliation from CTC local churches and to adopt the 2023 Conference budget. Prior to voting on the issues of the day, Bishop Ruben Saenz Jr., resident Bishop of the Central Texas Conference, offered a stirring address in which he did not shy from the angst and obstacles of the day, yet eagerly reestablished that we are people of hope and promise in our Lord Jesus Christ.

"...we must believe that God is not finished with us, despite our disputes and strife. While some have chosen to go a separate way, we all belong to Christ. As despairing as we might be over the church’s future, we must remind ourselves that the church was Jesus’ idea, not ours.This is not a day to despair. This is a day to refocus on and reimagine the work that Christ is calling us to do.”
