While we are currently enjoying and living in the season of the Epiphany – our celebration of the light coming to the gentiles – the season of Lent is now less than a month away, with Ash Wednesday falling on Feb. 13 this year. If you or your church/small group class/organization hasn’t already prayerfully made plans for a 2013 Lenten studies and programs, don’t fret, there is still time as there are some wonderful, “ready out of the box” resources available for you use to help make this great season of the Christian year as a time of deepening our walk with Christ.
If you have not already cemented your Lenten plans, Bishop Lowry, via his This Focused Center blog, recently suggested that pastors/preachers, Sunday School class teachers and all others should consider Rev. Adam Hamilton’s new book The Way: Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus. It is the third volume of a three-volume Bible study series on the life of Jesus.
In recommending the study, Bishop Lowry, quoted the books promotional postcard, noting that it summed up his view of the book nicely. “Once again, Hamilton approaches his subject matter with thoughtfulness and wisdom in this third volume of his study series on the life of Christ – just as he did with Jesus’ crucifixion in 24 Hours That Changed the World and Jesus’ birth in The Journey. Using historical information, archeological data, and signature stories of faith, Hamilton follows in the footsteps of Jesus, examining the people he loved, the healing he brought, the parables he taught, and the enemies he made.”
The following is the official video trailer of The Way: Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus put out by Abington Press, which offers a succinct summary of what to expect from the book/study.
