According to a recent Gallup Poll
, the No. 1 reason Americans go to church is to experience “Sermons that teach about scripture.” The No. 2 reason is “Sermons that help connect religion and life.” Good, effective, biblically based preaching that connects people to God and each other tops the list above all other areas – including children and youth programs, community outreach, social activities and even music – and it isn’t even close. Given that our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ and the best way we know how to do that is via the local church, it is imperative that we continue to discover creative ways to constantly grow and improve our preaching.
Bishop Lowry has long-recognized and valued the importance of effective preaching in the local church and has charged his cabinet to produce a “Preaching Summit” designed to help you deliver memorable and engaging sermons. The 2018 Preaching Summit will take place from 9 a.m. – Noon on Oct. 25 at Acton UMC. As an indication of its priority, Bishop Lowry is expecting all Central Texas clergy to attend the summit – only the fourth time in the last 10 years that he has called for mandatory attendance at a conference event.
Make your plans to join us on October 25 in Acton for this fantastic opportunity. Revs. Andrew Forrest and Estee Valendy will be on hand to offer their unique perspectives and insights. We’ve also partnered with Preaching Rocket
to help provide essential tools and resources to improve your preaching.

Follow Up District Workshops for the Preaching Summit
In addition to the Oct. 25, conference-wide Preaching Summit, each district will host a follow-up workshop to provide even more practical tools for effective preaching. Watch for information about these follow-up workshops from your district office Those attending the District Workshops will be given free access to preaching resources provided in partnership with the Rocket Company (therocketcompany.com)
