Panhandle Wildfires Spur Call for Help from NWTX

by Laraine Waughtal*

Over the last week, you have heard in the news about three major wildfires in the Texas panhandle. A total of 482,732 acres were burned and five people lost their lives - including three people who lived within our conference and had gone back to try and rescue their cattle and horses. The loss of live and income has been devastating. Not only was this farm land this is beef country, so many lost their livestock due to the swift moving fires. One of the things that is often-times not covered in insurance is the fencing for all of that land.  It is extraordinarily expensive and they need to get it back up quickly.
If you feel led to help support the recovery efforts in panhandle, please give to the Central Texas Conference of the UMC and put in the memo line “Panhandle Fires" or Fund 5841. We will be sending checks regularly to the Northwest Texas Conference as soon as they are received.  Remember, this is also a part of your Five Star Mission program giving.
Stay tuned for information regarding any ERT or UMVIM teams that are needed in the area.
