Who We Are

Welcome to the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church!

Or, perhaps more accurately, welcome to the official website of the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. We hope you find this site as warm and welcoming as the people and churches that make up our annual conference.

The mission of the Central Texas Conference (CTC) is to energize and equip local churches to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. As the official communications vehicle of the CTC, our goal is to energize and equip local churches with the information, news and resources they need to more effectively reach outward to their communities and the world. We also want to share the stories of our conference laity, clergy and churches as they use the gifts given to them by God in the service of the Kingdom. It is our hope that if you are new to the United Methodist Church or Christianity in general, or even if you’d consider yourself a “lifer” in the service of Christ, that you’ll find the information you need and get to know us better along the way.

We are a conference will long-standing roots and traditions in Central Texas. In fact, we have just begun our second century as a conference after celebrating our centennial in June of 2010. We are also very much a conference that believes in the inevitability of change, that it is God’s gift and that it is our task to manage change in efficient and creative ways. As such, we are working to adapt some of those long-standing traditions that served us and those touched by the church so well for so long so that we can effectively reach all persons in the mission field that God has set before us today.

We are a conference that believes to our core that the approximately 330 churches throughout our five districts are “mission stations,” outposts for and instruments of the work of God in our world, and that mission at all levels of the church should be well defined, laser-focused and with goals that are easily measured.

We believe that the Conference, its local congregations and its people are called to be good stewards of the resources God provides for our work.

We are called to be faithful the five core values of the United Methodist Church: Evangelism, Wesleyan Tradition, Spiritual Growth, Mission and Inclusiveness.

We whole-heartedly embrace the four focus areas of the United Methodist Church as we tirelessly work to:
1.     Develop principled Christian leaders for the church and the world;
2.     Create new places for new people by starting new congregations and revitalizing existing ones;
3.     Engage in ministry with the poor; and
4.     Stamp out killer diseases by improving global health.

We believe that each local church can become a Fruitful and Vital Congregation by practicing Radical Hospitality, Passionate Worship, Intentional Faith Development, Risk-Taking Mission and Extravagant Generosity.

We are a conference on a journey in the wilderness and we are thankful that you have joined us – even if for just a moment – on our way to the promise land. Please explore this site and learn more about our people, our diverse cultures, our clergy and lay leadership and all that makes up the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. If there is anything you hope to find and seem to be missing, just let us know and we’ll do our best to provide you with the resources and information you need.
