Leanne Johnston, Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministries
Leanne Johnston is originally from New Jersey and the Philadelphia area but she got to Texas as quickly as she could! She grew up in the United Methodist church and received a call to youth ministry in high school. After graduating, Leanne moved from her home in the Philadelphia suburb of Yardley to Southern Methodist University and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies and Psychology in 2004. Following her time at SMU, Leanne moved north to serve as youth minister at a church in Frisco, Texas. At Bridgeport Camp, God made it very clear to Leanne that seminary was in her future. It took about a year, but soon Leanne found herself at Perkins School of Theology and after switching back and forth between degree programs, eventually graduated with her Masters in Theological Studies in 2009.
Graduation came at the perfect time – just two months later Leanne was married to Perkins Alumni, Jarrod Johnston. He was serving in Slidell, Louisiana as a music minister, so Leanne and Jarrod began their married life 500 miles away from their Dallas-based family. To make it feel more like home, Leanne convinced her only sister to move to Slidell – she’s now in the process of attempting to convince her that the DFW area is the best place to live! While in Louisiana, Leanne worked in the Disaster Recovery Ministry for the Louisiana Conference, what is now the Epworth Project.
Leanne enjoys serving youth ministers, churches, and young people out of a desire to make strong disciples for Jesus Christ and encourage life-long learning. Getting to know youth ministers, pastors, and young adults in our conference and hearing their stories is her favorite part of her ministry in the Central Texas Conference. She is passionate about equipping leaders of all ages to serve the world and strengthen the United Methodist Church.
