Position Title:               DIRECTOR OF STUDENT LEADERSHIP MINISTRIES
                      ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF MISSION MINISTRIES
 
 
JOB SUMMARY
This director has responsibility for leadership development and empowering the youth in all levels of the Church: conference, districts and local church. This is a full-time position under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Mission Ministries.
 
JOB RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: 
Executive Director of Mission Ministries and Annual Conference Personnel Committee
 
Interrelationship: 
Conference Mission Ministries Leadership Team, N.O.W. Councils, Evaluation and Budget Coordination, Glen Lake Camps and Assemblies Board of Directors, Committee on Nominations and Student Leadership Team
 
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
            Level of Education:
                        Bachelor’s degree
                        Certification in United Methodist Youth Ministries
                        Continuing Education in Youth Ministries
 
            Level of Experience:
Experience in actually developing youth ministries in a local church and/or conference-level work with youth
 
Experience in designing and implementing youth programs
 
Experience in working with councils, youth workers in planning and visioning
 
            Skills:
                        Willingness to work a varied schedule
                        Servant leadership
Ability to coordinate and manage tasks, events and programs simultaneously, including strategic planning both long range and current
Ability to work with persons of differing theological perspectives (multi-cultural society)
Ability to invite dialogue
Excellent written and verbal skills/communication skills
Able to work within a budget
Knowledge of and appreciation for The United Methodist Church (local, district, conference, jurisdictional, national, global)
Computer literate
Maintain positive attitude in relation to position and responsibilities
Flexibility and openness to new ideas
Community builder
Ability to stay current with youth ministry trends and youth culture
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The director shall serve as the Director of Student Leadership Ministries for the Annual conference. As such, the ministry will include, but not be limited to:
 
Serving as advisor and staff representative for the Conference Student Leadership Team ministries
 
Active participant in planning and implementing Mission Ministries’ goals and events, especially those areas relating to Student Ministries
 
Empower and grow the youth in leadership skills in all aspects of church life
 
Give guidance and assist in connection between youth and youth ministers
 
Serve as resource to Student Ministry in the local church
 
Design systems of interface between youth and adults
 
Work with newly graduating seniors maintaining contact to establish a church/campus ministry connection in their new location
 
Coordinate all youth retreats/events
 
Coordinate and conduct Student Leadership Team meetings and orientation
 
Organize youth delegates to annual conference
 
Schedule, plan and attend FAYM (Forum of Adults in Youth Ministry) meetings/luncheons, dinners, etc.
 
Propose annual budget for all areas of conference Student Leadership ministries
 
Communication and publicity for all conference youth events
 
Annual conference staff representative to districts as may be assigned
 
As a member of the professional staff, the Director will be expected to establish his/her own schedule in consultation with the Executive Director. Because the Director’s responsibilities involve weekends and extended over night events, flexible hours and compensatory times shall be possible within the schedule.
