2009 in Review
Participants from a number of CTC churches served on conference-wide mission teams in 2009 to Lake Charles, LA, and on our annual UMVIM/Disaster Response project at UMCOR’s Sager Brown Depot in Baldwin, LA. This is in addition to CTCYM, district mission teams, and countless local church mission teams our CTC church communities sent out worldwide. Based on information received from CTCYM leadership, team leaders and local church mission coordinators, we are delighted to report the following statistics from 2009: 
Mission teams sent: 4 medical, 439 construction/education
Mission team members sent: 3,546
Volunteer work days served: 15,870
Contributions in team expenses and project supplies: $1,004,556
Project locations:  15 international projects in 7 countries;
424 projects in 5 states; 97 projects located in the CTC area; more than 12 projects located in areas affected by hurricane
Monetary worth of donated volunteer hours: $2,249,572
Overall value of volunteer contributions and mission experience: PRICELESS!

            Plans are underway for 2010 for UMVIM team leader training as well as conference-wide adult UMVIM projects in Mexico’s Eastern Conference, Red Bird Mission in eastern Kentucky, and Sager Brown. Please let us know if you would like to learn more about how your church can be involved in the ministry of UMVIM.

Highlighted Ministries:

TEAM LEADER TRAINING, Saturday, April 24, 2010.  Join Central Texas UMVIM for a special event to train dedicated misison team leaders. see attached for additional information and registraiton

PRIMETIMERS
Primetimers offer older adults opportunities for educational forums, cross-cultural exposure, faith-filled reflection, and greater exposure to the work of The United Methodist Church and the church universal. This is an educational and mission service experience for Older Adults and is a program of the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church.  For information on the 2010-11 list of events click here.

Join the Central Texas Conference volunteers in a conference-wide Disaster Response/UMVIM trip to the Sager Brown Depot on May 2-7, 2010 see attached for information and registration.

Join a Central Texas Conference adult team this fall serving the Red Bird Missionary Conference - October 3-9, 2010.  The Red Bird Missionary Conference is nestled in the Appalachian mountains of southeaster Kentucky.  It is the most comprehensive misison effort of The United Methodist Church in the United States. see attached for information, cost and registration

Annual Volunteer Work Week at Mount Sequoyah, April 5-9, 2010
Each year Mount Sequoyah, our retreat center for the South Central Jurisdiction, hosts a volunteer work week during which volunteers from all of the 15 conferences that make up the SCJ come to give of their time to enhance the mission and beauty of Mount Sequoyah.  The retreat center is in the heart of Fayetteville, Arkansas, at the top of a large hill overlooking the city.  It is located in a gorgeous part of the Ozarks, and Mount Sequoyah is host to a number of workshops, meetings, retreats, and training opportunities for our jurisdiction.  With the large numbers of guests attending events, the center is in constant need of maintenance and upkeep.  The annual volunteer work week is a time to make sure that big projects get done.  For a brochure and registration form, visit http://www.mountsequoyah.org/www.mountsequoyah.org/Programs_Training_files/FINALWW%20Brochure%202010-reg.pdf

 SINGLES MISSION TRIP TO DULAC, LOUISIANA

February 11 – 15, 2010
 
All singles are invited to participate in a disaster recovery mission trip to Dulac, Louisiana, from Thursday, February 11 through Monday, February 15 (President’s Day Weekend).  Please save these dates and plan on joining us as we work on homes devastated from past hurricanes.  Contact Reverend Chuck Graff if you are interested in serving  (817-339-5065 or cgraff@myfumc.org) see the attached for additional details.

Lake Charles Partnership
Due to a vast and ongoing need for volunteers in Lake Charles and other parts of southwest Louisiana, the CTC continues to support the partnership that we established with this area in October 2006.  Please consider joining the efforts of the Louisiana Conference Disaster Response Ministry by organizing a mission team to serve at the Lake Charles Station.  For more information, visit www.laumcstormrelief.com.

 GRANTS AVAILABLE
The Central Texas Conference UMVIM program may have a grant available for you!  If your church or United Methodist institution (such as a Wesley Foundation) has not previously taken a mission trip, you may qualify for a one-time grant of up to $500 to help with the expenses of your first UMVIM project.  Click here for a first-time mission team grant application.

If you are a United Methodist individual Volunteer in Mission, or if you would like to be, you may also qualify for a one-time grant of up to $500 to help with expenses during your time of service.  Click here for an individual VIM grant application.
