Human Relations Day is January 15

12/14/2011

Human Relations Day is just around the corner. You can still order your free offering resources from United Methodist Communications for this Jan. 15 offering that supports ministries that advocate for those often on the margins of society.

UMComms has also produced a series of videos to help you promote and generate interest in this Special Sunday offering. There are four videos available for your review and/or download below. “Hagar’s House,” “Center for Changing Lives” and “Fountain of Youth Foundation” directly relate to Human Relations Day, and “Why We Give” is focused on giving in general in the United Methodist Church.

Hagar’s House – This video features Just Us Youth Human Relations Day recipient, Nichol LeBrun and other Global Ministries summer interns at Hagar's House. Hagar's House is a sanctuary for women and children in New Orleans that provides an open and empowering residential community. Interns learn social justice ministry through the Human Relations Day programs. Center for Changing Lives – Meet Amanda Destefano, a recent college graduate who was confident that her summer internship with a Global Ministries community developer project in Chicago would help make a difference in the lives of that community – she just didn’t realize the difference it would make in her life as well. You can view the video below, click here to view on the umcgiving.org YouTube channel or download a version to be used in your service or meeting here.

Fountain of Youth Foundation - Driving thru some neighborhoods in New Orleans gives the impression that progression has been suppressed by the weight of the water.  With the focus on basic survival after Hurricane Katrina, one grassroots organization wanted to make sure the dreams of the city’s youth would not be washed away.  In 2007, the Fountain of Youth Foundationswas formed to be a refuge for kids dealing with violence in their communities. Why We Give – View this video to get a good idea as to how United Methodists use the gifts received to help make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. You can view the video below, click here to view on the umcgiving.org YouTube channel or download a version to be used in your service or meeting here.
